One of the most-feared stages of XP’s bootup is the Windows Defender error. If you get this error, you will want to be sure you’ve got your Windows Update updated (and not stuck on the default “Check For Update” screens that Microsoft forces you to see after it has done its dirty work in the Windows Registry). The good news is that if you have Windows Defender not works appropriately; there’s an easy way to fix it. Here’s what you need to do.
First, start by checking whether your Windows Defender application is installed. Click Start, then Run. Type “MSConfig” in the box. Check the Select All option to include all the settings and options for your windows update. Finally, click OK. When the Windows Update prompts you to restart your computer, do so.
If the Windows Defender search bar does not appear in the start menu, select the Run tab from the Start menu and type “MSConfig” again. This time, instead of searching for a Windows Defender window, type “search.” You’ll be given a list of matching programs. When you click on each of them, you’ll get additional information on the program causing the error. You should then uninstall the virus protection program.
You might also find that your windows defender is not working correctly because it’s not compatible with the latest security updates for Windows 7 or Windows 10. Go into the Control Panel, select System and Security, and then click the “Updates” tab. If you don’t know which updates are required, you’ll want to go to the official Microsoft site for help.
When you’re sure you’ve made all of the necessary repairs, it’s time to reinstall the windows defender antivirus software. To do this, you’ll need to click Start, then Run, followed by “regedit.” You’ll see a window pop up that lets you put in the specifics of the registry key causing the issue. You can then choose “regedit” to return to the previous settings before you can run your antivirus program. After everything is reinstalled, run the antivirus program, and everything should be working correctly.
There are a few steps here that might prove to be tricky. If you find that your antivirus program is not working as well as it did when you first purchased it, you might want to try reinstalling the windows defender program and see if that fixes the problems you’re having. If that doesn’t work, you’ll need to take the appropriate steps to correct any security settings that aren’t working correctly. With proper care, your PC should remain safe and virus free.
