“Google Apps For Work” is not what it sounds like. Is it a free tool to use at work? Google Apps for Work is a free, fully-featured online tool that gives you access to nearly all of Google’s fantastic tools for business, productivity, networking and much more – all in one location. In other words, it gives you the same tools that you’d get from their other apps (free or on a fee) on your personal computer. Here are some things that you may find helpful with your Google Apps for Work:
Backup: You can back up your files stored in the cloud. To do this, you will have to set up an account with Google Cloud Storage. You will have to give your computer a temporary password, and then it will synchronize the files stored in the cloud with your computer. You can then log into your computer and access your files from there. However, if you want to copy and backup the files stored in the cloud manually, you’ll have to do that yourself.
Synchronize App: If you use any of the mobile apps developed by Google, they will also sync to your computer. Synchronizing the apps with your laptop means that your computer will also open them whenever you open them on your mobile device. This helps you to have the open phone apps that you use frequently. For instance, if you open your Gmail app on your mobile phone, you can sync it to your computer. Similarly, whenever you use the calculator on your tablet to do your calculations, it too will be synchronized between your tablet and your computer.
Calendar & Reminders: Google Calendar is extremely popular, and it’s available in all the other Google services. You can view it using the Chrome browser on your computer—similarly, all the essential upcoming appointments, reminders for upcoming meetings etc. You can synchronize your calendar to your laptop as well. To do this, all you need to do is install the Google Apps Manager, and from there, you can select the sync option. Once you do so, the calendar will be copied to your laptop.
One important thing that most people who are planning to sync their Google Apps data to a laptop need to understand is whether their hosting account supports the Google Apps service offered by the vendor. If you’re using a dedicated hosting account, as we mentioned earlier, you won’t be able to use Google Apps. But if you’re using a shared hosting account like we used to, Google Apps can be installed on your laptop. We used to do it for quite some time and found the process to be very simple. You need to go to the Google Apps website, find the option to install the application on your laptop and follow the on-screen prompts. And once the installation is done, you can already access all your Google Docs and Calendar files from your computer.
So, if you’re planning to sync your Google Docs and Calendar with your laptop, go ahead and do so. Once it’s done, you’ll have access to not only your Google docs and Calendar files but also to any other apps that are synced to your laptop as well. It’s effortless to configure the settings of the sync so that they match your Google account. If you’re not satisfied with the way things are configured on the New Google Apps portal, we’d suggest that you alter them yourself using the Control Panel – Personalization section.
